However, the public platform, which will support all information about students’ academic situation, is already delayed. The Ministry of Education is only now beginning to work on it, with a completion deadline more than three years away.
Nevertheless, many schools already have an electronic gradebook. At the Bănățean National College in Timișoara, the electronic gradebook has already been used for several years. Teachers enter grades and absences directly into the application, which can be installed on any phone or tablet. The change has brought major benefits for teachers, parents and students.
Parents can instantly see their academic situation, and they receive notifications if absences appear. Students enjoy the up-to-date information as well.
“On the one hand, communication with parents is much more direct, much faster, much more efficient. On the other hand, we reduce the degree of bureaucracy. Absences are easier to monitor,” said Sorin Ionescu, principal of the Bănățean National College in Timișoara, cited by Digi24.
The electronic gradebook will become mandatory starting from the next school year, according to a 2004 ministerial order.
The Ministry of Education has announced that it is preparing a national and free electronic gradebook platform for all schools in the country, which is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2029.
