Raiffeisen Bank completes acquisition of Garanti BBVA Romania

Raiffeisen Bank announced that it completed the acquisition of 100% of Garanti BBVA Romania Group after receiving all required regulatory approvals. The transaction covers Garanti Bank, financial leasing company Motoractive IFN, and operational leasing company Motoractive Multiservices.

The acquisition brings Garanti BBVA Romania into Raiffeisen Bank International Group and begins preparations for its merger with Raiffeisen Bank Romania.

Until the legal merger and subsequent operational migration are completed, the two banks will continue to operate separately, Raiffeisen said. Existing contracts, products, and services will remain unchanged, and customers are not required to take any action at this stage.

Customers will continue to use their current accounts, cards, digital banking applications, and contact channels. Raiffeisen said any changes affecting customers, employees, or business partners would be communicated in advance.

“Romania is a priority market for us, with solid long-term growth potential and an important role in the region,” Raiffeisen Bank International CEO Michael Höllerer said.
“By combining the proven strengths of Raiffeisen Bank Romania and Garanti BBVA Romania, we are building an even stronger and more competitive bank.”

Dedicated teams from both banks will work to align their operations, systems, products, processes, and organizational structures during the integration period.

“The process will take time, but I am confident that, in the end, we will bring together not only two banks but also two exceptional teams,” Raiffeisen Bank Romania president and CEO Zdenek Romanek said.

Garanti BBVA Romania’s management team will remain in place during the transition.

Under the current timetable, full integration is expected in the second half of 2027.
