Romanian FinMin assures pensions, wages will be paid despite problematic budget execution

“We are not in danger of not being able to pay pensions and salaries. I exclude this possibility. We are not in this situation, we will pay pensions and salaries,” Nazare said in an interview with TVR 1, as reported by Economedia.ro.

However, he acknowledged that the situation was far from comfortable and that the government would have benefited from being able to carry out a budget rectification.

“It’s not a comfortable situation at all; it would have helped us to be able to make the rectification now,” he said.

Nazare said the government had managed during the summer to pass several legislative initiatives through Parliament that addressed specific problems and allowed the authorities to find solutions to pressing issues despite the lack of a budget rectification.

“But we can’t continue like this anymore,” he said.

The finance minister said his priority was to bring the political crisis to an end so that the government could proceed with the budget rectification and begin preparations for next year’s budget.

“I hope that within a reasonable time frame we can convey that Romania has closed the political crisis,” Nazare said.
“The priority is to have the rectification and, very shortly, to begin technical preparations for the 2027 budget and what the 2027 budget will look like.”
