Revolut reaches 5 mln retail customers in Romania, plans new Bucharest headquarters

Revolut has surpassed 5 million retail customers in Romania after adding more than 500,000 users in less than 12 months, the company announced. It is also preparing to open a new 1,300 sqm headquarters at Charles de Gaulle Plaza in Bucharest.

The number of Romanian customers using Revolut as their primary bank increased by 40% between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026, according to aggregated internal company data.

Romanian users made an average of more than 56 million card payments per month during the same period, with 77% of the transactions occurring at merchants in Romania.

“Revolut’s infrastructure now offers Romanian customers a complete banking relationship, from Romanian IBANs and local payments to lending, savings, and investments,” said Florina Moisei, Revolut’s country manager in Romania.
“The next chapter is about continuing to invest in our products, our local team, and our presence in the market. Our new headquarters in Bucharest will be an important part of this stage.”

Revolut operates in Romania through a local branch of Lithuania-based Revolut Bank UAB. Its services in the country include Romanian IBANs, personal loans, savings accounts, payments, transfers, foreign exchange, and investments.

Revolut Business is approaching 30,000 corporate customers in Romania. Meanwhile, Revolut Pay has more than 150,000 active Romanian users, up 42% over the past year, according to company data.

“Romania is a mature banking market for us, with three out of four Revolut card payments being made locally,” said Wiktor Stopa, the company’s head of growth for Central and Eastern Europe and Western Europe.

The company currently employs nearly 300 people in Romania and plans to expand its local team. Although it operates primarily through a remote-working model, the new Bucharest office will provide space for in-person collaboration and product development, it said.

Revolut was launched in the United Kingdom in 2015 and currently reports more than 80 million customers worldwide.
