The leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) senators, Petrișor Peiu, said that the party’s representatives are willing to meet Social Democrat leader Sorin Grindeanu if invited to discussions on forming a parliamentary majority, Agerpres reported on Tuesday, September 22.
Peiu said any potential parliamentary majorities should be negotiated before the formal consultations at Cotroceni Palace, based on an agreed governing programme and a proposal for prime minister.
“If he invites us, we will go and talk to him or, at least, to the PSD representatives. If we agree, it is good that this happens before the formal consultations at Cotroceni,” Peiu said.
He stressed that he was referring to institutional discussions between the parties and rejected reports of individual negotiations with MPs.
“There is no such thing. They are stories; they brag,” the AUR senator said.
Asked how AUR would vote on a government formed around prime minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan, given that Mureșan has so far ruled out discussions with AUR, Peiu said such a formula would not have the necessary parliamentary support.
“What should we look for? We probably won’t even get there [to the parliamentary vote],” Peiu said.
