The head of state said that major funds and investment banks are important partners for any modern and serious country.
“An important meeting today, in New York, at JPMorgan’s headquarters, with some of the most important institutional investors in Romanian government bonds. Romania borrows tens of billions of euros annually and will continue to do so, even if to a lesser extent, once we reduce the budget deficit to below 3% of GDP,” the president wrote on his social media accounts.
According to the president, he discussed the economy, plans regarding the use of European funds in the coming years, as well as Romania’s and Europe’s priorities and problems during the meeting.
“I assured them that, despite the political noise, we will maintain the fiscal trajectory of reducing the deficit and debt and will continue to take measures to regain Romania’s and Europe’s competitiveness,” Nicuşor Dan said in his message.
Afterwards, the president met with representatives of the Romanian community in the United States, as well as businesspeople.
“We discussed the challenges and opportunities brought by the rapid development of artificial intelligence and IT security, and how state institutions can use new technologies for more efficient public services. We also talked about university education in Romania and what we need to do for our country to keep pace with advanced countries in these areas,” the president said.
At the same meeting, Romania’s finance minister Alexandru Nazare laid out details regarding programs prepared by the government to support Romanian entrepreneurs in the diaspora.
President Nicușor Dan’s partner, Mirabela Grădinaru, also took part in discussions in New York about the development of technologies and how they could be made safer for children.
“Romania’s First Lady, Mirabela Grădinaru, continued the dialogue started in March in Washington as part of the Fostering the Future Together initiative, founded by the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump. It was a meeting about children and the world in which they are growing up, a world in which technology is evolving at an unprecedented speed,” according to a post by the “România în lumină” organization, a project of the Presidential Administration.
