The first part of Bucharest National Opera’s 2026-2027 season will include 18 opera and ballet productions, including two premieres, namely Richard Wagner’s Tannhäuser and Adolphe Charles Adam’s Giselle.
“We have designed the opening of the season so that audiences can enjoy both the great classics they love and productions they rarely have the opportunity to see on the stage of the Bucharest National Opera. We open with Tannhäuser, one of Wagner’s greatest works, continue with the premiere of the ballet Giselle, and throughout the autumn, we present a program that appeals both to our loyal audience and to those visiting the Opera for the first time,” Daniel Jinga, the general director of the Bucharest National Opera, explained.
The season opens on October 1 and October 3 with the premiere of Wagner’s Tannhäuser, conducted by Cristian Mandeal.
The month’s program also includes Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni; Verdi’s Aida, Rigoletto and Nabucco; Delibes’ Lakmé; as well as Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake and Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
The premiere of Adolphe Charles Adam’s ballet Giselle has scheduled performances on November 13, 14 and 15.
The program of November includes Puccini’s Tosca, Saint-Saëns’ Samson and Delilah, and Bizet’s Carmen. The month will also see the inaugural Stelian Olariu Choral Festival, structured around three themed evenings dedicated to a cappella music, sacred music, and great choral works.
In December, the public will be able to see Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Eugene Onegin, Puccini’s La Bohème, as well as Verdi’s La traviata and Wagner’s Lohengrin.
The tickets for the performances scheduled between October and December have been put on sale.
