{"id":9730,"date":"2026-04-14T12:05:55","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T12:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=9730"},"modified":"2026-04-14T12:05:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T12:05:55","slug":"romanian-director-radu-judes-latest-project-to-premiere-at-cannes-directors-fortnight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=9730","title":{"rendered":"Romanian director Radu Jude\u2019s latest project to premiere at Cannes Directors\u2019 Fortnight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Journal d\u2019une femme de chambre\/ The Diary of a Chambermaid<\/em>, the latest film of director <strong>Radu Jude<\/strong>, will premiere in this year\u2019s Quinzaine des Cin\u00e9astes\/Directors\u2019 Fortnight, an independent section held in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Starring Ana Dumitra\u0219cu in the lead role, the film follows a young woman from Romania who works for a French family and becomes involved with an amateur theatre company preparing an adaptation of Octave Mirbeau\u2019s novel <em>The Diary of a Chambermaid<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Directors\u2019 Fortnight selection covers works from 19 countries on five continents, and brings together established filmmakers and emerging voices, including six debut features.<\/p>\n<p>The selection includes titles such as Kantemir Balagov\u2019s <em>Butterfly Jam<\/em>; Reed Van Dyk\u2019s <em>Atonement, <\/em>the<em> <\/em>Iraq war drama starring Kenneth Branagh; and Arie Esiri and Chuko Esiri\u2019s <em>Clarissa<\/em>, a reimagining of Virginia Woolf\u2019s novel <em>Mrs Dalloway<\/em> starring Sophie Okonedo.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Radu Jude won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay for <em>Kontinental &#8217;25<\/em> at the Berlin International Film Festival\/ Berlinale. It was Jude\u2019s third film awarded in Berlinale\u2019s main competition, after <em>Aferim!<\/em>, which earned him the Silver Bear for Best Director in 2015, and <em>Babardeal\u0103 cu bucluc sau porno balamuc\/ Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn<\/em>, for which he took home the Golden Bear in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The director won the CICAE Art Cinema award at the 2009 Berlinale for his debut feature film, <em>Cea mai fericit\u0103 fat\u0103 din lume\/ The Happiest Girl in the World<\/em>. His 2012 feature <em>Toat\u0103 lumea din familia noastr\u0103\/ Everybody in Our Family<\/em> premiered in Berlinale\u2019s Forum section.<\/p>\n<p>His 2016 <em>Inimi cicatrizate\/ Scarred Hearts<\/em> received two awards at the Locarno International Film Festival and brought him the best director award at the Mar del Plata Film Festival. Jude&#8217;s 2018 <em>\u00cemi este indiferent dac\u0103 \u00een istorie vom intra ca barbari\/ I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians<\/em> received the Crystal Globe Award at the 53rd edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival &#8211; the first Romanian feature to receive the distinction of the Czech film event.<\/p>\n<p>Created in 1969 by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des R\u00e9alisatrices et R\u00e9alisateurs de Films (SRF), the Directors\u2019 Fortnight showcases \u201cthe most singular forms of contemporary cinema.\u201d The Fortnight brings together short, medium- and feature-length films, fiction and non-fiction, live action and animation.
