The decision, issued by the Bucharest Tribunal late last week, is final and comes as the case in which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/calin-georgescu-sent-trial-july-2025\" target=\"_blank\">he is accused of promoting legionary ideology<\/a> moves forward in court, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.ro\/justitie\/calin-georgescu-scapa-de-controlul-judiciar-tribunalul-bucuresti-i-a-admis-contestatia-si-a-dispus-ridicarea-masurii-preventive-1922402803002026041722399671\" target=\"_blank\">News.ro<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The tribunal admitted Georgescu\u2019s appeal and partially overturned a previous ruling by the District 1 Court, which had decided to maintain the preventive measure. While the court confirmed that the measure had been legally imposed, it ultimately ruled to revoke it.<\/p>\n<p>C\u01celin Georgescu, the far-right populist who surprisingly emerged as the first-round winner of\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/ccr-annuls-presidential-elections-romania-december-2024\" target=\"_blank\">2024\u00a0annulled presidential elections<\/a>, was sent to trial in July 2025 under judicial control by prosecutors from the High Court of Cassation and Justice Prosecutor\u2019s Office. He faces charges of publicly promoting individuals convicted of genocide and war crimes, as well as disseminating fascist, legionary, racist, and xenophobic ideas in multiple instances over several years.<\/p>\n<p>According to the indictment, between 2020 and 2025, Georgescu allegedly made repeated public statements, including interviews, speeches, and social media posts, expressing pro-legionary views and praising controversial historical figures such as Ion Antonescu.
