Romania\u2019s High Court of Cassation and Justice decided on Wednesday, February 11, that the mercenary Hora\u0163iu Potra will remain in preventive detention. Potra\u2019s son and nephew will also remain under house arrest.<\/p>\n

They reportedly discussed a plan according to which the mercenary and people from his entourage, with military training, were to carry out \u201cviolent actions of a subversive nature,\u201d to divert the peaceful demonstrations at that time.<\/p>\n Prosecutors further showed that Hora\u0163iu Potra consolidated a paramilitary group of 21 people, led by him, establishing that they would travel with seven cars toward Bucharest, where they would trigger protests against state authorities, which were to be diverted into \u201cviolent actions capable of completing the revisionist policy\u201d of C\u0103lin Georgescu.<\/p>\n On the night of December 7 to 8, 2024, police set up checkpoints in the areas of Balote\u015fti\u2013S\u0103ftica, Ilfov County, and M\u0103ne\u015fti and Corne\u015fti, D\u00e2mbovi\u0163a County, as well as in Bucharest, stopping and checking Potra\u2019s group.
