The body of Romanian former justice minister Rodica St\u0103noiu was exhumed on Monday, December 15, after prosecutors opened an in rem<\/em> case regarding her suspicious death, Digi24<\/a> reported.\u00a0Investigators are looking into the possibility that the former minister may have been killed through negligence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rodica St\u0103noiu, former justice minister in the Adrian N\u0103stase government, died on December 3, at the age of 86.<\/p>\n

The Prosecutor\u2019s Office attached to the Ilfov Tribunal opened a case of suspicious death in the minister\u2019s death after they discovered that a few days before her death, Rodica St\u0103noiu was hospitalized at the \u201cAlexandru Obregia\u201d Hospital in Bucharest, with traces of blows on her body. She was discharged at the request of her partner.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeveral pieces of evidence were administered which revealed the need to carry out more thorough investigations related to the last period of the life of St\u0103noiu Rodica,\u201d prosecutors said, cited by Digi24. They also mentioned \u201ctraces of acts of violence on her body, and aspects concerning the victim\u2019s personal life in the last period.\u201d<\/p>\n

To uncover the truth, the case prosecutor ordered the exhumation of the body of Rodica St\u0103noiu from Izvorul Nou Cemetery in Bucharest.\u00a0Prosecutors also requested medical documents from the Floreasca and Obregia hospitals as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n

Hearings are to be conducted to establish the circumstances in which she died.\u00a0The investigations will continue under the supervision of the Prosecutor\u2019s Office attached to the Ilfov Tribunal.<\/p>\n

The announcement regarding the death of Rodica St\u0103noiu was made by former prime minister and PSD leader Adrian N\u0103stase on his blog. He called Rodica St\u0103noiu \u201can old friend and colleague,\u201d stating that she had an important contribution to reforms in the field of justice.<\/p>\n
