Preliminary data suggest that the spread of these messages \u201cbears the hallmarks of a coordinated disinformation campaign, the agency stated.<\/p>\n<p>SRI also urged citizens to avoid sharing unverified content from anonymous or unreliable sources and to rely only on official information channels.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the intelligence service called attention to the growing need to update Romania\u2019s legal framework, including criminal legislation, to effectively counter disinformation efforts aimed at undermining public trust in state institutions and promoting extremist or radical narratives.<\/p>\n\n<p>Following last week\u2019s deadly explosion in Bucharest, social media platforms were quickly flooded with false claims, including allegations of planted explosives, assassinations, and political conspiracies involving senior officials. Some false narratives, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digi24.ro\/stiri\/actualitate\/conspiratiile-care-au-invadat-internetul-dupa-explozia-din-rahova-de-la-bomba-c4-la-fiul-unui-general-din-csat-3463647\" target=\"_blank\">Digi24<\/a>, turned the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/anre-probe-gas-company-bucharest-explosion-oct-2025\" target=\"_blank\">investigation into a possible gas accumulation<\/a> into a movie-like scenario, featuring \u201cC-4 bombs,\u201d an alleged \u201cdouble assassination,\u201d and stories about \u201cthe killing of a general\u2019s son from the Defense Council,\u201d who was said to have opposed the cancellation of the presidential elections.<\/p>\n<p>Another theory circulating on social media reportedly claimed that the mayor had opened donation accounts for the victims, but the money allegedly \u201cended up in his own pocket.\u201d Other posts linked the supposed funds to aid provided to Ukrainian refugees or to the Republic of Moldova.
