Two of the shortlisted productions are from Romania.<\/p>\n<p>The shortlist includes 44 feature films, 15 documentary films, and 8 animated feature films. A total of 34 European countries, both EU and non-EU, are represented, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanfilmawards.eu\/the-european-film-awards-2026-european-film-academy-announces-academy-shortlist\/\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Romania is represented on the shortlist for the 2026 European Film Academy Awards through the documentary &#8220;<em>Twst \/ Things We Said Today<\/em>,&#8221;\u00a0directed by Andrei Ujic\u0103, and the feature film &#8220;<em>Milk Teeth&#8221; (Din\u0163i de lapte)<\/em> by Mihai Mincan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two other films, <em>&#8220;Two Prosecutors\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cI Only Rest in the Storm,\u201d <\/em>were also shot and produced in Romania.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside Jafar Panahi\u2019s Palme d\u2019Or-winning film at Cannes, <em>\u201cIt Was Just an Accident\u201d<\/em> (and the Cannes winners <em>\u201cSentimental Value\u201d<\/em>, <em>\u201cSound of Falling\u201d<\/em>, <em>\u201cSirat\u201d<\/em>, and <em>\u201cPillion\u201d<\/em>), the shortlist includes several of this year\u2019s festival favorites, such as <em>\u201cDreams\u201d<\/em>, the Berlin Festival winner directed by Dag Johan Haugerud; <em>\u201cLa Grazia\u201d<\/em>, the opening film of the Venice Festival, directed by Paolo Sorrentino; and <em>\u201cFather\u201d<\/em>, the Zurich Festival winner directed by Tereza Nvotov\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBugonia\u201d<\/em> by Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons,\u00a0and <em>\u201cThe Voice of Hind Rajab\u201d<\/em> were also selected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many European films nominated for the Oscars are also in the running for the EFA, including those from Norway (<em>\u201cSentimental Value\u201d<\/em>), France (<em>\u201cIt Was Just an Accident\u201d<\/em>), Germany (<em>\u201cSound of Falling\u201d<\/em>), Switzerland (<em>\u201cLate Shift\u201d<\/em>), and Belgium (<em>\u201cYoung Mothers\u201d<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>This year, the European Film Academy has moved the award ceremony to January 17, before the BAFTA (February 22) and Oscar awards (March 2), to play a more significant role in the awards conversation and to ensure that the EFAs are the first event to honor the best European films of the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement of the Academy Shortlist is the first step in the awarding procedure.
