winning the European Heritage Awards\u2019 Public Choice Prize in 2023<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\nOn October 6, a Via Transilvanica milestone will be unveiled at the Accademia di Romania in Rome, in collaboration with the Romanian Embassy and the Romanian Cultural Institute, marking the historic connection between Rome and Romania, according to a press release.<\/p>\n
The following morning, Tibi U\u0219eriu will depart from Trajan\u2019s Column, running alongside fellow athlete Cristian Deac and supported by volunteer driver C\u0103t\u0103lin Sava. The trio will cross Italy, San Marino, Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia before reaching Romania at Drobeta-Turnu Severin, where they are expected to arrive on October 30.<\/p>\n
\u201cVia Transilvanica is one of the most beautiful national projects to become reality in today\u2019s Romania,\u201d said Oana Bo\u0219ca M\u0103lin, deputy director of the Accademia di Romania. \u201cThrough this symbolic extension, U\u0219eriu and his team are retracing the Roman road to Dacia, reinforcing the historical and cultural bond at the root of Romania\u2019s identity.\u201d<\/p>\n
In her turn, Romania\u2019s ambassador to Italy, Gabriela Danc\u0103u, called the start in Rome a \u201clandmark moment\u201d in bilateral ties.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cVia Transilvanica is not just a route, but a living bridge that unites people, cultures, and traditions,\u201d she said. \u201cWe encourage all those who love the outdoors to join the runners, even for a short distance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Along the way, members of the Romanian diaspora and international supporters are invited to accompany Tibi U\u0219eriu for stretches of the journey.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The effort is also tied to the Via Transilvanica membership program, launched this year to ensure ongoing maintenance and development of the trail with the help of recurring contributions from supporters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this journey, we want to show that we can walk the same road together, no matter how far apart we are or how we choose to travel it,\u201d said U\u0219eriu.<\/p>\n
His brother, Alin U\u0219eriu, president of T\u0103\u0219uleasa Social, is simultaneously walking the Via Transilvanica in Romania, with both brothers aiming to meet at the symbolic finish point: the remains of Trajan\u2019s Bridge in Drobeta-Turnu Severin.<\/p>\n
