{"id":6903,"date":"2025-09-24T08:02:51","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T08:02:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=6903"},"modified":"2025-09-24T08:02:51","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T08:02:51","slug":"european-commission-to-open-consultations-with-parliament-on-romanias-eu-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=6903","title":{"rendered":"European Commission to open consultations with Parliament on Romania\u2019s EU funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The European Commission will begin a structural dialogue with the European Parliament on November 3 regarding a possible suspension of EU funds for Romania, according to a statement by Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Dan Barna, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/agerpres.ro\/romania-in-lume\/2025\/09\/23\/dan-barna-dialogul-structural-al-comisiei-cu-pe-legat-de-eventuala-taiere-a-fondurilor-ue-pentru-rom--1486785?mc_cid=4858c7d9a8&amp;mc_eid=607bd7d763\" target=\"_blank\">Agerpres <\/a>on September 23.<\/p>\n<p>Barna, a USR representative and vice-president of the Renew Europe group, told Romanian journalists in Brussels that the process was \u201cvery important\u201d for ensuring Romania\u2019s access to European financing. He said the consultations would involve the Parliament\u2019s Committee on Regional Development (REGI), the Committee on Development (DEVE), and the Committee on Budgets (BUDG).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, the Commission is analysing the measures of the packages proposed by the Romanian Government and to what extent they allow the continuation of the financing and allocation mechanisms as foreseen or are adjustments necessary,\u201d Barna said. \u201cIt is an opportunity\u2026 for us, the Romanian MEPs present here in the European Parliament, to support Romania\u2019s position as much as possible to avoid ending up in a situation of cutting funds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barna noted that while the European Parliament\u2019s position would not be binding, its views could influence the Commission\u2019s final decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commission will present its points of view, Parliament will be able to respond, we have the mechanism unlocked,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe emphasized that the procedure should not be directly linked to the October 10 meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), where EU finance ministers will assess Romania\u2019s efforts to correct its deficit. \u201cThis structural dialogue is part of the process on which the Commission will base its decision.
