Romanian member of the European Parliament Siegfried Mure\u0219an has been named among 17 lawmakers expected to shape the EU\u2019s political agenda in the coming years, according to a new list published by Politico.eu<\/a> and quoted by Digi24<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mure\u0219an, a member of the European People\u2019s Party (EPP), was highlighted in the category of \u201cdynamic duos\u201d alongside Portuguese MEP Carla Tavares of the Socialists & Democrats. The pair are leading negotiations on the European Union\u2019s seven-year budget for 2028\u20132034, worth an estimated EUR 1.8 trillion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Politico says their work will be decisive for setting the bloc\u2019s long-term spending priorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cMure\u0219an and Tavares have been entrusted with one of the Parliament\u2019s most fundamental responsibilities: deciding how the EU spends its money. As co-leads in negotiations for\u00a0the EU\u2019s next seven-year budget\u00a0starting in 2028, they must guide political groups toward a unified position on how to allocate \u2014 and fill \u2014 a EUR 1.8 trillion budget proposed by the Commission in mid-July. Once the Parliament\u2019s position is agreed, a process that starts this fall, they will then have to defend it in tough negotiations with EU governments in order to secure a final deal,\u201d says author Max Griera in the Politico article.<\/p>\n

The list, drawn from the EU Parliament\u2019s 720 lawmakers, identifies figures with outsized influence through leadership roles, legislative negotiations, or political maneuvering.<\/p>\n

Other MEPs singled out include Ren\u00e9 Repasi (S&D, Germany), described as the group\u2019s unofficial number two, Andrzej Halicki (EPP, Poland), a close ally of prime minister Donald Tusk, and Jeroen Lenaers (EPP, Netherlands), seen as the \u201ccharming whip\u201d of his political group.<\/p>\n

Hungarian MEP Kinga G\u00e1l, a confidante of prime minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n, was cited as a driving force in the new far-right \u201cPatriots\u201d faction, while Italian Nicola Procaccini (ECR) was described as working to keep conservatives united. Former Belgian prime minister Sophie Wilm\u00e8s (Renew) was also included for her influence on rule-of-law files.<\/p>\n

The list also includes Fernand Kartheiser (nonattached, Luxembourg), Raquel Garc\u00eda Hermida-van der Walle (Renew, Netherlands), Brando Benifei (S&D, Italy), Alexandra Geese (Greens, Germany), and Dirk Gotink (EPP, Netherlands).<\/p>\n

Alongside Mure\u0219an and Tavares, the \u201cdynamic duos\u201d category also features Dutch MEPs Malik Azmani (Renew) and Marieke Ehlers (Patriots), who are central to migration policy talks, as well as Germans Sven Simon (EPP) and Daniel Freund (Greens), known for clashing over ethics and transparency rules.<\/p>\n
