I thank the deputies and senators from these committees who placed on the agenda the request of the Romanian Army to obtain approval for the purchase of a light corvette, which we are set to acquire from Turkey,\u201d Ionu\u0163 Mo\u015fteanu said, as quoted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.ro\/social\/ionut-mosteanu-ministrul-apararii-comisiile-aparare-parlament-au-dat-aviz-pozitiv-privind-achizitionarea-unei-corvete-excedentul-armatei-turce-echipament-modern-interoperabil-nato-costa-223-milioane-1922405908002025091922157625\" target=\"_blank\">News.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ship, already built in Turkey, comes equipped with modern NATO-interoperable systems, the minister explained. Additional costs are expected for missiles and other supplementary equipment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mo\u015fteanu, who attended the session alongside senior military officials including vice admiral Mihai Panait, noted the growing security challenges in the Black Sea region, where Romania has been conducting daily demining operations with Turkish and Bulgarian allies to secure commercial shipping routes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Black Sea will remain a safe sea thanks to the Romanian Army and its allies. For that, we need this equipment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Vice admiral Panait outlined Romania\u2019s broader 20-year naval modernization plan, which includes building two patrol ships, four European-designed corvettes, three new frigates, and equipping the navy with submarines, mini-submarines, drones, and mine-hunting vessels.<\/p>\n<p>In August, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/royal-navy-minehunter-romania-august-2025\" target=\"_blank\">a former Royal Navy minehunter joined the Romanian Navy<\/a> to contribute to NATO\u2019s efforts to enhance security in the Black Sea.
