{"id":645,"date":"2024-06-25T10:16:28","date_gmt":"2024-06-25T10:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=645"},"modified":"2024-06-25T10:16:28","modified_gmt":"2024-06-25T10:16:28","slug":"far-right-party-sos-romania-nominates-diana-sosoaca-as-presidential-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=645","title":{"rendered":"Far-right party SOS Romania nominates Diana \u015eo\u015foac\u0103 as presidential candidate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Committee of far-right party SOS Romania <a href=\"https:\/\/sosro.ro\/comitetul-national-al-s-o-s-romania-a-decis-ca-presedintele-formatiunii-diana-iovanovici-sosoaca-sa-fie-candidatul-partidului-la-presedintia-romaniei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unanimously decided<\/a> on the candidacy of <strong>Diana Iovanovici-\u015eo\u015foac\u0103<\/strong> in this year&#8217;s presidential elections. She is the party&#8217;s president and, following the June 9 European and local elections, a member of the European Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Diana \u015eo\u015foac\u0103 joined SOS Romania after leaving the\u00a0far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) due to disagreements with other members on the party&#8217;s strategy. AUR&#8217;s leader, George Simion, will also run in the presidential elections this year.<\/p>\n<p>Another candidate is justice minister Ana Birchall, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/ana-birchall-bid-president-jun-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced plans to run for president in this year&#8217;s elections as an independent<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the biggest parties in Romania and the partners in the current ruling alliance, namely the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL), are yet to confirm their candidates officially. Their leaders, Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciuc\u0103, will most probably join the presidential race.<\/p>\n<p>Another potential candidate is Mircea Geoan\u0103, a former Social Democrat and the current NATO deputy secretary general.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Save Romania Union (USR), the main opposition party in Romania, is also expected to announce its presidential candidate by the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>However, the PSD and PNL are still holding negotiations on the exact dates of the presidential elections. Usually held in December, the vote could be held in September this year, although media reports said the Liberals are not yet comfortable with such a change.
