The project aims to connect the country\u2019s youngest airport to the national railway network.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative comes after an agreement between the Bra\u0219ov County Council, the Bra\u0219ov municipality, the Bra\u0219ov Transport Association, and the town halls of Sf. Gheorghe (Covasna County), Codlea, R\u00e2\u0219nov, Ghimbav, Z\u0103rne\u0219ti, Cristian, H\u0103rman, Prejmer, and S\u00e2npetru.<\/p>\n<p>The local authorities joined forces for the number one objective in the field of intra- and inter-county sustainable mobility for the 2024\u20132028 mandate, said Adrian Ve\u0219tea, president of the Bra\u0219ov County Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first concrete step was also today, with the signing of the contract,\u201d the official noted. \u201cWe hope that Bra\u0219ov will be the third county, after Cluj and Bihor, to put into operation this modern and ecological means of transport.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The document should be ready in six months and will form the basis for accessing non-reimbursable funding with a maximum value of EUR 238 million, available under the Transport Program 2021\u20132027 for the implementation of the metropolitan train.<\/p>\n<p>As such, by 2029, Bra\u0219ov residents will have three main lines: Stupini \u2013 Bra\u0219ov Railway Station, Codlea \u2013 Sf. Gheorghe, with a branch to the Airport, and Z\u0103rne\u0219ti \u2013 D\u00e2rste.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this way, the youngest airport in Romania will benefit from an important facility through the direct connection to the national railway network, which will mean better accessibility for passengers from our county, from Covasna, and the entire region,\u201d explained Ve\u0219tea.<\/p>\n<p>Bra\u0219ov-Ghimbav International Airport in central Romania recorded a total of 56,897 passengers in the first quarter of this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/brasov-airport-doubles-passenger-numbers-q1-2025\">more than double<\/a> the number from the same period in 2024, when 27,885 travelers were registered.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"mailto:radu@romania-insider.com\">radu@romania-insider.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(Photo source: Adrian Vestea on Facebook)<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Local authorities in Bra\u0219ov County announced on Wednesday, August 20, the signing of the Partnership Agreement for the preparation and implementation of the \u201cBra\u0219ov Metropolitan Train\u201d project.
