{"id":6328,"date":"2025-08-14T07:01:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T07:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=6328"},"modified":"2025-08-14T07:01:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T07:01:12","slug":"romanias-special-pension-reform-faces-risk-of-constitutional-court-rejection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=6328","title":{"rendered":"Romania\u2019s special pension reform faces risk of Constitutional Court rejection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Constitutional Court of Romania could again strike down the government\u2019s bill to reform magistrates\u2019 special pensions on procedural grounds, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.g4media.ro\/exclusiv-capcana-asumarii-raspunderii-pe-pensiile-speciale-ale-magistratilor-reforma-lui-bolojan-ar-putea-sa-pice-la-ccr-pentru-ca-in-senat-exista-deja-un-proiect-de-lege-similar-proiectul.html?mc_cid=189208d811&amp;mc_eid=cd1f92f96c\" target=\"_blank\">G4Media.ro<\/a> reported on August 13, citing Senate president Mircea Abrudean and Liberal Party (PNL) senators\u2019 leader Daniel Fenechiu. The risk arises because a separate bill on the same subject is already under debate in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Prime minister Ilie Bolojan\u2019s cabinet has proposed assuming responsibility before Parliament to pass the measure. However, a 2010 Constitutional Court ruling found such a move unconstitutional if a bill with similar provisions is already in the legislative process.<\/p>\n<p>Interim Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Sorin Grindeanu has demanded the immediate adoption of the special pension reform as a condition for returning to governing coalition meetings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>PSD has not attended such meetings for the past two weeks, delaying the second package of reforms. Grindeanu said PSD\u2019s participation depends on passing a broader \u201cprivilege elimination\u201d package, which also includes reducing state agencies, cutting the size and allowances of boards of directors, and abolishing other benefits.
