Romanian president Nicu\u0219or Dan spoke by phone on August 12 with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, expressing Romania\u2019s support for US president Donald Trump\u2019s efforts to find a solution to the war in Ukraine, provided that \u201cpeace is reached with Ukraine at the negotiation table.\u201d Dan also accepted Zelensky\u2019s invitation to visit Kyiv this autumn.<\/p>\n
In a post on X, Nicu\u0219or Dan said he had an in-depth discussion with Zelensky, emphasizing the need for a \u201ccomprehensive and lasting peace\u201d to end Russia\u2019s daily attacks.<\/p>\n

Dan also reaffirmed Romania\u2019s support for Ukraine\u2019s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, stressing that the country\u2019s security is closely linked to the security of the Black Sea and Europe.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs neighbor and partner, Romania will continue to stand with Ukraine in all efforts to reach a just peace for the people of Ukraine,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
The Romanian leader also said that he accepted Volodymyr Zelensky\u2019s invitation to travel to Kyiv this autumn.<\/p>\n

He thanked Dan and other EU leaders for their clear statement of support for Ukraine\u2019s independence and sovereignty, noting that the first step toward a just peace must be a ceasefire.
