{"id":4937,"date":"2025-05-09T12:01:54","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T12:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=4937"},"modified":"2025-05-09T12:01:54","modified_gmt":"2025-05-09T12:01:54","slug":"romanias-constitutional-court-validates-results-of-presidential-elections-first-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=4937","title":{"rendered":"Romania&#8217;s Constitutional Court validates results of presidential elections&#8217; first round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Constitutional Court unanimously validated on Friday, May 9, the results of the first round of the presidential elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It also rejected as unfounded a request to annul the elections filed by Sebastian-Constantin Popescu, the presidential candidate of the New Romania Party, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccr.ro\/comunicat-de-presa-9-mai-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The runoff, set for May 18, will see ultranationalist leader George Simion, the candidate of AUR, face off against independent candidate Nicu\u015for Dan, the current mayor of Bucharest, supported by pro-EU parties.<\/p>\n<p>Simion received 40.96% of the valid votes cast in the first round, while Nicu\u015for Dan gathered 20.99% of the votes, according to the final results <a href=\"https:\/\/prezidentiale2025.bec.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/CP_56.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">released <\/a>by the Central Electoral Commission (BEC).
