{"id":4393,"date":"2025-03-31T10:00:47","date_gmt":"2025-03-31T10:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=4393"},"modified":"2025-03-31T10:00:47","modified_gmt":"2025-03-31T10:00:47","slug":"via-transilvanica-long-distance-trail-crossing-romania-expands-brasov-segment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=4393","title":{"rendered":"Via Transilvanica: Long-distance trail crossing Romania expands Bra\u015fov segment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Via Transilvanica, the long-distance trail crossing the country, has laid the first milestone of the upcoming Terra Borza Teutonica, a section in central Romania&#8217;s Bra\u015fov county.<\/p>\n<p>The milestone was laid in Viscri, the village known for its UNESCO-listed fortified church and as a holiday destination for King Charles III, who owns a property there.<\/p>\n<p>The 1,400-km-long Via Transilvanica crosses ten counties: Suceava, Bistri\u021ba-N\u0103s\u0103ud, Mure\u0219, Harghita, Sibiu, Bra\u0219ov, Alba, Hunedoara, Cara\u0219-Severin and Mehedin\u021bi and is divided into seven cultural-historical regions: Bucovina, The Highlands (\u021ainutul de Sus), Terra Siculorum, Terra Saxonum, Terra Dacica, Terra Banatica, and Terra Romana.<\/p>\n<p>The planned extension would reach some 170 km. The county of Bra\u015fov has been represented with only 26 km so far, the project&#8217;s initiators explained.<\/p>\n<p>The new section will cross the area of 14 administrative units, namely Bune\u015fti, Jibert, \u015eoar\u015f, Ticu\u015f, M\u00e2ndra, \u015eercaia, \u015einca, \u015einca Nou\u0103, Poiana M\u0103rului, Z\u0103rne\u015fti, Moieciu, Bran, R\u00e2\u015fnov and Bra\u015fov.<\/p>\n<p>Via Transilvanica, a project developed by T\u0103\u0219uleasa Social, showcases 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It starts in Bucovina, at Putna, crosses Transylvania, and ends at Drobeta Turnu Severin, near the Danube shore.<\/p>\n<p>The trail was inaugurated in 2022 after four years of work with the involvement of local communities and over 10,000 volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>It is dotted with signposts and andesite milestones, individually carved by national and international artists.<\/p>\n<p>The long-distance trail, which has been widely featured in international publications, won in 2023 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/via-transilvanica-public-choice-european-heritage-awards-sept-2023\" target=\"_blank\">Public Choice Award<\/a> of the European Heritage Awards and was among the winners of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/romania-projects-winners-european-heritage-awards-2023#:~:text=The%20European%20Commission%20and%20Europa,of%20the%20Waters%2C%20Danube%20Delta.\" target=\"_blank\">Citizens&#8217; Engagement and Awareness-raising<\/a> category of the same awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p><em>(Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dreamstime.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Adragosphoto\/ Dreamstime<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>simona@romania-insider.com<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Via Transilvanica, the long-distance trail crossing the country, has laid the first milestone of the upcoming Terra Borza Teutonica, a section in central Romania&#8217;s Bra\u015fov county.
