After listing a few Hollywood productions, he added, &#8220;I really like Romanian films.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some members of the audience initially thought he was joking, responding with laughter and applause. However, Scorsese continued. &#8220;Mungiu and Puiu\u2014I mispronounce their names\u2014<em>Police, Adjective<\/em> (dir. Corneliu Porumboiu), <em>Sieranevada<\/em> (dir. by Cristi Puiu),&#8221;\u00a0 he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-embed-field-provider-youtube video-embed-field-responsive-video\">\n<\/div>\n<p>Scorsese particularly highlighted Radu Jude&#8217;s films. &#8220;There&#8217;s this guy named Radu Jude\u2026 He\u2019s something else. Especially\u00a0<em>Aferim!<\/em>, which he shot in black and white, and another one that I\u2019m sure isn\u2019t to everyone\u2019s taste,\u00a0<em>Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World<\/em>. That one is shocking\u2014it takes political content, cinema, morality, immorality, throws it all on screen, then shatters it into a thousand pieces, and suddenly, you see the world differently.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jude\u2019s films, Scorsese motivated, are \u201cfresh and engaging.\u201d He went on to cite the Romanian director. \u201cI think he once said, &#8216;Maybe cinema hasn\u2019t even begun yet.&#8217; And he\u2019s right\u2026 he\u2019s right.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Radu Jude shared the interview on his Facebook page, noting that it is a great honor to be mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Scorsese has been a defining figure in world cinema since the 1970s, gaining fame with <em>Taxi Driver<\/em> (1976) and <em>New York, New York<\/em> (1977). He holds the record for the most Oscar nominations for Best Director, with ten. He won only one Oscar, in 2006, for <em>The Departed<\/em>.
