{"id":3494,"date":"2025-01-29T11:03:35","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T11:03:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=3494"},"modified":"2025-01-29T11:03:35","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T11:03:35","slug":"romanian-government-continues-cost-cutting-drive-to-tackle-massive-deficit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=3494","title":{"rendered":"Romanian government continues cost-cutting drive to tackle massive deficit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Romanian officials recently announced new measures to cut public expenses, with decreased budgets for the Presidential Administration, Senate, Chamber of Deputies, alongside a series of staff restructuring initiatives.\u00a0Cost-cutting activities began after the latest data showed that Romania\u2019s budget deficit hit 8.6% in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Romanian minister of finance Tanczos Barna <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=1152886676653729&amp;set=a.220232849919121\">proposed<\/a> a -10% cut in the expenses of the Presidential Administration, -5% for the Senate, and -9% for the Chamber of Deputies as part of the reduction in public expenses included in the 2025 budget proposal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Barna, the budget proposal puts \u201cthe state on a diet\u201d and shows a higher degree of prudence, but will ensure the payment of salaries and pensions, as well as &#8220;massive investments in the economy and substantial funds for local development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the official announced budget increases for the ministries of Education (10%), Transport (20%), Environment (51%) and Health (50%) compared to previous year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The allocated funds will ensure the continuation of investments in the Sibiu-Pite\u0219ti, Sibiu-F\u0103g\u0103ra\u0219, Foc\u0219ani-Bac\u0103u, Ploie\u0219ti-Buz\u0103u, and Buz\u0103u-Foc\u0219ani highways, as well as the rehabilitation of railway lines. Funding will be provided for the construction of regional emergency hospitals in Craiova, Ia\u0219i, and Cluj, along with significant investments in water and sewage systems and selective waste collection centers, Tanczos Barna said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aside from lowered budgets, some institutions have decided to eliminate certain positions as well. The Chamber of Deputies announced that it would eliminate 240 positions, generating savings of RON 35 million (EUR 7 million). A week ago, the president of the Senate, Ilie Bolojan, announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/staff-restructuring-spark-protest-romanian-senate-employees-2025\">elimination of 178 positions<\/a> from the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire process will comply with the current legislation regarding social dialogue. Discussions have taken place with union representatives, and it has been reiterated that the legal provisions on collective dismissals will be respected,\u201d said Social Democrat Ciprian \u0218erban, president of the Chamber of Deputies, cited by <a href=\"https:\/\/hotnews.ro\/conducerea-camerei-deputatilor-a-anuntat-ca-desfiinteaza-240-de-posturi-care-sunt-acestea-1889365\">HotNews.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Positions will be eliminated from the Legislative Department and Technical Secretariat, the Secretary General\u2019s Office, the Economic and HR departments, along with many others.<\/p>\n<p>\u0218erban noted that the Chamber of Deputies currently has approximately 1,500 employees.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Chamber of Deputies\u2019 website, more than 30 positions are currently open for recruitment.
