His announcement came in response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/crin-antonescu-presidential-candidate-december-2024\" target=\"_blank\">ruling coalition\u2019s recent presentation of their presidential candidate<\/a> &#8211; former Liberal leader Crin Antonescu.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/nicusor-dan-run-president-dec-2024\" target=\"_blank\">Dan first announced his intention to run for president earlier this month<\/a>, saying he is open to discussions with the pro-European parties to support his bid. Now, after the ruling alliance announced their own candidate, the Bucharest mayor expressed confidence in the electorate\u2019s ability to make informed decisions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI firmly believe Romania needs a new way of doing politics &#8211; one rooted in clarity, transparency, and real solutions, without compromises or behind-the-scenes deals,\u201d Nicu\u0219or Dan said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1124260722383674&amp;set=a.353823452760742\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a> on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe coalition parties have announced their own candidate, but I trust that Romanians will carefully analyze each of our pasts and our visions for the future. Their vote will be informed and deliberate,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that politics doesn\u2019t have to be just black-and-white, highlighting the potential for reform-minded individuals across the political spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are good-faith individuals in every party who want change and are tired of the \u2018good enough\u2019 mentality. Together, we must build a functional state based on merit and professionalism,\u201d Dan stated.<\/p>\n<p>Further on, the mayor said, \u201cIt\u2019s time to free state institutions from the influence of political cliques\u201d and restore them to serving the citizens, as \u201cRomania deserves an administration that works for the people, not for obscure interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nicu\u0219or Dan\u2019s vision for the country, he stated, is simple: \u201cA just, modern, and forward-looking Romania.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Romania is set to hold presidential elections again in 2025 after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/ccr-annuls-presidential-elections-romania-december-2024\" target=\"_blank\">the Constitutional Court (CCR) decided to annul this year\u2019s entire presidential election process<\/a> following declassified reports alleging Russian involvement in cyber activities aimed at undermining the integrity of the first round of the presidential elections.<\/p>\n<p>The new government, sworn in on December 23, will be tasked with setting the 2025 dates for the presidential elections.<\/p>\n<p>irina.marica@romania-insider.com<\/p>\n<p>(Photo source: Inquam Photos\/Octav Ganea)<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bucharest mayor Nicu\u0219or Dan has reiterated his intention to run as an independent candidate in the presidential elections next year, saying Romania needs a new way of doing politics.
