The trip comes amid heightened security concerns following deadly drone attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presidency.ro\/ro\/media\/agenda-presedintelui\">agenda<\/a> shared on the Romanian Presidency\u2019s website, Nicu\u0219or Dan will welcome von der Leyen at the Cotroceni Palace at 3:30 pm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMonday\u2019s reception will be part of the broader visit that the European Commission president is making to the Black Sea region,\u201d Romanian Presidency officials said, as quoted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.ro\/politic-intern\/update-ursula-von-der-leyen-vine-luni-in-romania-dupa-atacurile-cu-drone-asupra-navelor-din-marea-neagra-va-face-o-vizita-si-in-bulgaria-1922405306002026111322953823\">News.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ursula von der Leyen is also scheduled to meet prime minister Luca Niculescu in Bucharest, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/about\/organisation\/college-commissioners\/calendar-items-president-and-commissioners_en?f%5B0%5D=commissioner_dynamic_commissioner_dynamic%3Ahttp%3A\/\/publications.europa.eu\/resource\/authority\/political-leader\/COM_00006A0440FF\">agenda<\/a> published by the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/ursula-von-der-leyen-to-visit-black-sea-amid-wave-of-deadly-drone-attacks\/\">Politico<\/a> reported that the Commission chief would travel to Romania and Bulgaria before attending the COP climate summit in Turkey. The trip follows a series of drone attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea, which have increased security tensions on NATO\u2019s eastern flank.<\/p>\n<p>At least seven commercial ships were reportedly hit last month, leaving two sailors dead and at least 25 people missing. Romania has blamed Russia for the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Ursula von der Leyen is also due to travel to Bulgaria on Tuesday, where she will meet prime minister Rumen Radev in Varna and visit the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy.<\/p>\n<p>The EC president\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/society\/ursula-von-der-leyen-romania-visit-sept-2025\">previous visit to Romania<\/a> took place in September 2025.
