Retail group Ahold Delhaize, which owns the Mega Image, Profi, and Shop&Go brands, and renewable energy producer Rezolv Energy have signed a 10-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreement covering electricity from two projects in Romania. The deal combines solar and wind generation and represents around 14% of their expected combined annual output.<\/p>\n
The agreement covers 370 GWh of renewable electricity per year from the 1.3 GWp Dama Solar project in Arad county and the 300 MW Dunarea East Wind Farm in Constan\u021ba County.<\/p>\n
Together, the projects are expected to generate approximately 2,580 GWh annually, equivalent to almost 5% of Romania\u2019s electricity consumption in 2025, according to the companies.<\/p>\n
Ahold Delhaize will receive Guarantees of Origin for ten years after the two facilities enter commercial operation, currently scheduled for 2029.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are pleased to support the development of these wind and solar projects in Romania, which will add new renewable capacity to the grid,\u201d said Lenka Duskova, CFO of Ahold Delhaize Europe and Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Dama Solar is expected to generate approximately 1,800 GWh per year and cover more than 1,000 hectares. Rezolv Energy said that it also set aside 82 hectares within the site for a nature reserve.<\/p>\n
Dunarea East forms part of the larger Dunarea East & West Wind Farms project. Both Dama Solar and Dunarea East secured Contracts for Difference in Romania\u2019s second CfD auction in 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is one of the largest and most important corporate renewable energy agreements ever signed in Southeastern Europe,\u201d Rezolv Energy CEO Alastair Hammond said. \u201cBy committing to such a significant share of the output from these two projects, Ahold Delhaize has become a key corporate investor in Romania\u2019s energy transition.\u201d<\/p>\n
The deal is Rezolv Energy\u2019s eighth virtual power purchase agreement in Romania and Bulgaria and its first with a retailer. It is also the first such agreement signed for both Dama Solar and Dunarea East.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2022 by Actis, Rezolv Energy has a 2.8 GW portfolio of renewable projects in operation, under construction, or at an advanced stage of development across Southeastern Europe.
