To have the film and my work recognized in this way has given me real confidence as I move towards my next projects. Her professional work focuses on trauma and support for vulnerable people. Her short films have screened at festivals including Sheffield DocFest, the East End Film Festival, and the SEE Film Festival.

Something Familiar is her feature documentary debut. The feature-length documentary, a Romanian-British co-production, began its international festival run in the DOX competition at CPH 2026. The film subsequently received the Hera “Nuovi Talenti” Special Mention in the International Competition at the 2026 Biografilm Festival. It opens in Romanian cinemas on November 13, distributed by Filmways.

The documentary centers on Rachel and Mihaela, two young women who were adopted as children from the same orphanage in Romania. One grew up in the UK, the other in Canada. Years later, Mihaela asks Rachel to help her find her biological mother. Their return to Romania, however, opens up another search: the director’s own, as she uncovers a family history far more complicated than she could have imagined. Filmed over six years, the documentary follows their searches and the discoveries that change their course.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dee0P1dAbEz/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Something Familiar is produced by Romania’s Manifest Film, through Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan and Elena Martin, in co-production with UK-based My Accomplice.
