Bogdan Pe\u0219chir, described by prosecutors as a financier of C\u0103lin Georgescu\u2019s TikTok campaign, has been indicted on charges of voter bribery. He will remain free pending trial, and the case has been sent to the Bra\u0219ov Court, local news agency Agerpres<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

The General Prosecutor\u2019s Office accused<\/a> Pe\u0219chir of 874 individual acts committed as part of a continued offence between October 13 and November 27, 2024.<\/p>\n

According to the indictment, Bogdan Pe\u0219chir allegedly provided benefits worth a total of USD 290,225 to persuade voters to support Russia-friendly independent candidate C\u0103lin Georgescu in the 2024 presidential election. The prosecutors said the sum included 868 virtual gifts worth USD 251,065 sent to 105 TikTok users and six cryptocurrency transfers totalling USD 39,160 to two people.<\/p>\n

The alleged influence operation involved recruiting popular content creators, systematically paying them to promote Georgescu and rewarding both declared supporters and potential voters during TikTok livestreams.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe defendant decisively influenced the topics being discussed, implicitly but unequivocally directing voters to express their electoral preference for this candidate,\u201d the prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

According to the prosecution, Bogdan Pe\u0219chir used significant financial resources during livestreaming sessions, distributing them directly and through content creators as virtual gifts and cryptocurrency. Some TikTok users allegedly came to believe they would receive gifts from Pe\u0219chir if they voted for C\u0103lin Georgescu.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the prosecutors also alleged that money was transferred directly to people who agreed to express their support for Georgescu and persuade others within their personal networks to do the same.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach influencer received RON 390 for 20,000 users,\u201d the General Prosecutor\u2019s Office said. \u201cThrough their actions, expressed as general calls to vote during livestreaming sessions, these influence vectors mechanically helped the defendant achieve his objective of bribing voters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bogdan Pe\u0219chir\u2019s name also appeared in intelligence documents presented to Romania\u2019s Supreme Council for National Defence before the Constitutional Court annulled the presidential election in December 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Romanian Intelligence Service said Pe\u0219chir operated the TikTok account \u201cbogpr\u201d and made donations exceeding EUR 1 million to support C\u01celin Georgescu\u2019s campaign. TikTok reportedly confirmed the account holder\u2019s identity and said the account had made USD 381,000 in payments to users involved in promoting Georgescu between October 24 and November 24, including after the official campaign period ended, Agerpres noted.<\/p>\n
