Their talks covered the bloc\u2019s future budget, economic competitiveness, energy prices, enlargement, and security challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRomania wants an ambitious budget, even if additional resources are needed at EU level to support competitiveness and defence,\u201d president Dan said in a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NicusorDan.ro\/posts\/pfbid02ZqP2oVSvNHPLQxoq6kG6ByJ9eTL9srddUSgGB6VfKZhSN6HMD2cNqBNs4qyK7DkEl?rdid=qw7kDJYRIq01fKU5#\">Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He added that cohesion policies would remain a priority for Romania.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the two officials also discussed EU enlargement and the membership prospects of Moldova and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe actively support the accession of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine,\u201d Nicu\u0219or Dan said. \u201cMoldovans, alongside Ukrainians, deserve to be part of the Union, and this would significantly improve the security of Romania, the region and the Black Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other topics included Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine and tensions in the Gulf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Council\u2019s agenda is very busy because we have many important issues to discuss, from increasing economic competitiveness and energy prices to the future EU budget,\u201d the Romanian president said.<\/p>\n<p>Nicu\u0219or Dan expressed confidence that EU leaders could make progress on the issues during the October 15-16 meeting.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Romanian president Nicu\u0219or Dan held a telephone conversation with European Council president Antonio Costa on Tuesday, October 6, to discuss the agenda of the upcoming EU leaders\u2019 summit.
