The PSD said on Friday, September 25, that a party delegation had met with representatives of S&P \u201cin the context of substantiating the rating decision regarding the Romanian economy\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the discussions, PSD leaders informed the rating agency representatives that PSD is ready to assume leadership of a government to end the current political crisis and return the national economy to a stable direction. PSD expressed its firm commitment to promoting a policy of fiscal consolidation and increasing budget revenues based on economic stimulation and improving tax collection,\u201d the party said.<\/p>\n

The party added that it wants to develop strategic partnerships to encourage foreign investment in Romania and reiterated the need for a government with full powers to be formed as soon as possible, capable of managing the country\u2019s macroeconomic balances and preparing and approving the 2027 budget, according to the statement cited by News.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n

PSD also said that the future government should seek to reduce social disparities, support disadvantaged groups and Romanian capital, while pursuing a \u201cbalanced and predictable\u201d economic policy for investors and domestic and international creditors. The party said it had proposed to all democratic political forces the construction of a parliamentary majority based on a set of national economic principles and priorities. The PSD also reaffirmed its support for European and Euro-Atlantic values.<\/p>\n

The delegation included MPs Marian Neac\u0219u, Bogdan Ivan, Alexandru Rogobete, Adrian C\u00e2ciu and Florin Manole, as well as PSD vice-president Mihnea Costoiu.<\/p>\n

The meeting came as PSD has been openly positioning itself for a possible government after the expected failure of prime minister-designate Siegfried Mure\u0219an to secure a parliamentary majority. PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu said on September 25 that the Mure\u0219an government would fail to obtain the necessary votes and that the subsequent options would be either a new prime ministerial nomination or the start of procedures for early elections.<\/p>\n

S&P representatives are in Romania for their periodic assessment of the country’s sovereign rating and have also met interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan and finance minister Alexandru Nazare.
