Agerpres <\/a>reported.<\/p>\nHe stressed that the government would be formed by the three parties that currently support his nomination \u2013 PNL, Save Romania Union (USR) and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) \u2013 and would not include PSD members.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I said from the beginning, we are first meeting with the three parties that officially support my designation. And I know that Mr Grindeanu is impatient. I also expect to have a dialogue with him, to discuss the government programme in the course of these days, maybe even tomorrow,\u201d Mure\u0219an told reporters at Parliament.<\/p>\n
Mure\u0219an also wrote on Facebook that the parliamentary vote on his cabinet would demonstrate \u201cwho supports a pro-European government and who wants to keep Romania in place\u201d.<\/p>\n
Before the PNL meeting, party spokesperson Ionel Bogdan said Mure\u0219an and his team would work with PNL, USR and UDMR to try to secure the 233 votes required for investiture.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 233 votes can only be proven in Parliament, only through the vote expressed by the lawmakers. So, we will see when the time comes whether we get the 233 votes. Until then, Siegfried Mure\u0219an and his team will work together with the PNL, USR and UDMR to try to form a majority,\u201d Bogdan said.<\/p>\n
Asked about UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor\u2019s recommendation that Mure\u0219an return his mandate if he cannot secure 233 votes before the parliamentary vote, Bogdan described the issue as part of the normal discussions taking place within the three-party grouping. He said the UDMR\u2019s position would become clearer after its internal meetings.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don’t think it is necessarily pressure. I think the most important thing is that the government program represents the needs that Romania has today and especially the realities in the country,\u201d Bogdan said.<\/p>\n
Kelemen said on September 21 that the parties remaining from the previous coalition were \u201cvery far\u201d from the required majority and warned that UDMR could reconsider whether it made sense to take a cabinet to Parliament with only 160\u2013170 potential votes.<\/p>\n
Mure\u0219an is nevertheless proceeding with negotiations, meeting PNL and USR parliamentary groups on September 22 and scheduled to meet UDMR on September 23 to discuss the government program and the parliamentary timetable for submitting the program and cabinet list, hearings and the final vote.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
