Over 2.7 million public pension recipients, roughly half of the total, may have had their pensions calculated incorrectly following the 2024 recalculation, potentially receiving less than they were entitled to, while others received more, according to Profit.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The issue was identified in a report by the Court of Auditors, based on checks of calculations carried out by the National House of Public Pensions (CNPP).<\/p>\n

Specifically, the Court of Auditors estimates that approximately 2.2 million pensioners received lower pensions than they should have. The state owes these pensioners an estimated RON230 million, according to the report. At the same time, more than 570,000 other pensioners are estimated to have received excess payments totaling more than RON71 million.<\/p>\n

The errors were reportedly caused by omitted periods of contribution, errors in the IT system and incorrect application of the law during the 2024 recalculation.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll situations reported in the recent audit report conducted by the Court of Auditors at the National House of Public Pensions for 2024 will be verified, and any identified differences in money will be resolved, according to the law,\u201d the CNPP said in a public response to the audit findings.<\/p>\n

The institution also stressed that \u201ca value estimated through statistical generalization does not mean that all 2.2 million files were individual\u201d, pointing out that the audit estimate should not be interpreted as meaning that errors have been individually confirmed in every one of the 2.2 million pension files. The CNPP attributed some of the errors to the processing of a very large number of files within a short period and the simultaneous implementation of new legislation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
