Romanian president Nicu\u0219or Dan met German chancellor Friedrich Merz in Rovaniemi on the sidelines of the European Summit dedicated to the Arctic region. Dan said the talks reaffirmed the strength of Romanian-German relations and explored ways to deepen the bilateral partnership.<\/p>\n
The two leaders reviewed upcoming priorities on the European agenda, particularly negotiations on the EU\u2019s next Multiannual Financial Framework.<\/p>\n
\u201cRomania supports the adoption of an ambitious European budget, the maintenance of a robust cohesion policy, and adequate funding for agriculture,\u201d Nicu\u0219or Dan said.<\/p>\n
The president also stressed the importance of reinforcing NATO\u2019s Eastern Flank in response to threats from Russia, including drone incursions into allied airspace. He welcomed Germany\u2019s support for strengthening NATO\u2019s deterrence and defense posture in the region.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the talks covered potential cooperation between the Romanian and German defense industries, including investment, joint production, and technology transfers.<\/p>\n
Dan and Merz also discussed EU enlargement, which the Romanian president described as \u201ca strategic investment in the security of the continent.\u201d<\/p>\n
Particular attention was given to Moldova\u2019s progress toward EU membership. Dan said its accession process should receive strong support, including through the opening of all negotiating clusters without delay.<\/p>\n
