The Alpin Film Festival will return to Bra\u0219ov, R\u00e2\u0219nov, and Bu\u0219teni from September 21 to 27 with more than 40 mountain-themed documentaries from over 18 countries. Now in its 11th edition, the event will feature international and Romanian competitions, a short-film section, and a special screening.<\/p>\n
The international selection includes films previously presented or awarded at festivals such as Cannes, IDFA, Sheffield DocFest, Visions du R\u00e9el, Banff, Trento, Kathmandu, and Bilbao.<\/p>\n
Among this year\u2019s highlights is Australian production Iron Winter<\/em>, directed by Kasimir Burgess, which won the Grand Prize at the 2025 Banff festival. Vincent Munier\u2019s <\/em> The Song of the Forests (Le Chant des for\u00eats) will also screen in the international competition.<\/p>\n Other selected titles include Dawn Kish\u2019s Old Man Lightning<\/em>, Luis Arrieta Etxeberria\u2019s <\/em> Lost Roots, Deyan Bararev\u2019s <\/em> Cruel Way, Fabio Minnig and Zimy Da Kid\u2019s <\/em> Untamed, and Chris Benchetler\u2019s <\/em> Mountains of the Moon.<\/p>\n Jennifer Peedom\u2019s documentary Sherpa<\/em> will receive a special screening organized in partnership with the International Alliance for Mountain Film.<\/p>\n The Romanian competition includes Cosmin Dumitrache\u2019s Mountain Wanderers<\/em>, about Marlene and Dinu Mititeanu, and Mircea Gherase\u2019s \u0218ona, a Story Written in Stone<\/em>, set in the artistic world of painter \u0218tefan C\u00e2l\u021bia.<\/p>\n The section also features Dan Curean\u2019s Sc\u0103ri\u021ba Beli\u0219oara<\/em>, Alex Dima\u2019s <\/em> Safety on Via Transilvanica, Ciprian Lolu\u2019s <\/em> Mezzalama Trophy: Ten Years Later, and Ruxandra Hurezeanu\u2019s portraits of ultramarathon runner Tibi U\u0219eriu and mountaineer David Neac\u0219u.<\/p>\n Ahead of the festival, \u0218ona, a Story Written in Stone<\/em> will receive a special preview at Club Control in Bucharest on September 13. The screening will be followed by a meeting with sculptor Virgil Scripcariu, with admission free subject to available capacity.<\/p>\n
