This became the 18th Romanian product to receive recognition and protection under a European quality scheme, the Romanian Agriculture Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madr.ro\/comunicare\/branza-framantata-de-teaca-devine-al-18-lea-produs-romanesc-recunoscut-si-inregistrat-la-nivel-european.html\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The cheese is produced in the village of Teaca, in Bistri\u021ba-N\u0103s\u0103ud county, from raw, unpasteurized cow\u2019s milk. Its production involves curdling, fermenting, maturing, salting, and kneading the cheese before placing it in a natural pig\u2019s bladder, which is then sewn closed.<\/p>\n<p>All stages of production must take place within the defined geographical area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cheese\u2019s characteristics cannot be accurately replicated outside this cultural and geographical context, as they rely on the local producers\u2019 ability to interpret and control each stage of the process through sight and touch,\u201d the European Commission said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis expertise has been passed down from generation to generation and is a core part of the community\u2019s identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pig\u2019s bladder gives each piece an irregular oval or round shape and a weight of between approximately 0.4 and 2 kilograms. The cheese has a soft, dense, and creamy consistency, with colors ranging from milky white to golden yellow.<\/p>\n<p>Its taste is described as slightly salty, sweet, and mildly acidic, while its aroma is milky, buttery, tangy, and slightly pungent.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Agriculture Ministry, the product\u2019s reputation is closely linked to the local know-how preserved in Teaca over several generations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe skill of the people who prepare this product plays an important role in preserving the particularities of its production,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Br\u00e2nz\u0103 fr\u0103m\u00e2ntat\u0103 de Teaca<\/em><em> joins 17 previously recognized Romanian products, including <\/em> Magiun de prune de Topoloveni, Salam de Sibiu, Telemea de Sibiu, C\u00e2rna\u021bi de Ple\u0219coi, Pl\u0103cint\u0103 dobrogean\u0103<em>, and <\/em> Babic de Buz\u0103u.<\/p>\n<p>Romania currently has another 11 applications under review by the European Commission, including two for Protected Geographical Indication status and nine for Traditional Speciality Guaranteed recognition.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Commission has approved the registration of Romania\u2019s Br\u00e2nz\u0103 fr\u0103m\u00e2ntat\u0103 de Teaca as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) on Wednesday, September 9.
