{"id":11855,"date":"2026-09-04T11:03:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T11:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=11855"},"modified":"2026-09-04T11:03:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T11:03:10","slug":"central-romania-restored-castle-in-covasna-reopens-to-the-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=11855","title":{"rendered":"Central Romania: Restored castle in Covasna reopens to the public"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Miko Castle in the village of Olteni, Covasna County, which has been restored with EU funding, is set to reopen its doors on Saturday, September 5, <a href=\"https:\/\/agerpres.ro\/2026\/09\/02\/covasna-castelul-miko-din-olteni-se-redeschide-dupa-restaurare-regizorul-edoardo-winspeare-prezent-l--1590140\" target=\"_blank\">Agerpres <\/a>reported.<\/p>\n<p>Built in 1827 by Count Miko Miklos, the castle is notable for the murals discovered on its interior walls during the restoration work. The paintings depict scenes from the social life of the period, as well as scenes from the Napoleonic Wars.<\/p>\n<p>The property was returned to the descendants of Count Miko in 2007. Seven years later, they sold it to the Covasna County Council and the Bodoc Local Council.<\/p>\n<p>The restoration was carried out as part of a project worth approximately RON 20 million, co-financed by EU funds through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).<\/p>\n<p>The castle will house the Sz\u00e9kely Equestrian Museum, a section of the Sz\u00e9kely National Museum in Sf\u00e2ntu Gheorghe.<\/p>\n<p>The castle is also set to become part of the Transylvanian Manor Houses Route, one of 12 national cultural tourism routes financed through PNRR,\u00a0the Covasna County Council <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjcv.ro\/ro\/castelul-miko-din-olteni-devine-muzeul-ecvestru-secuiesc.html\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The reopening will also be marked by a screening of the Italian film <em>Vita mia<\/em>, directed by Edoardo Winspeare, which features several scenes filmed inside the castle.
