Romanian actor Adrian V\u0103ncic\u0103 won the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actor at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival for his leading role in Florin \u0218erban\u2019s You Don\u2019t Belong Here (Nu e locul t\u0103u aici). The award follows the film\u2019s Golden Leopard win<\/a> at the Locarno Film Festival earlier this month.<\/p>\n

The Sarajevo jury praised Adrian V\u0103ncic\u0103 for \u201ca performance marked by tenacity and understated rigor, in which the actor remains constantly at the service of a story directed through long, wide shots.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe joy of the Golden Leopard at Locarno had barely settled in when another award arrived from Sarajevo,\u201d V\u0103ncic\u0103 said. \u201cIt is an important prize that makes me happy and honors me, given the high level of the films in competition and the jury of professionals I admire, led by Emily Watson.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an award that is mine and yet not mine, because without Florin \u0218erban it would not have existed,\u201d he added, thanking the director, his fellow actors, and the production team.<\/p>\n

The film follows Marius C\u0103lim\u0103nescu, a surgeon played by Adrian V\u0103ncic\u0103, whose life changes when he learns that his teenage son is suspected of murder and involvement in an extremist organization.<\/p>\n

The son, played by newcomer Teodor But\u0103nescu, is part of a group of young people who vandalize illegally parked cars and ultimately kill a Roma man who confronts them. Unaware of his son\u2019s connection to the crime, Marius tries to find a legal way to help the victim\u2019s family as the police investigation unfolds.<\/p>\n

The cast also includes Alex Conovaru, Cristina Richter, and Janir Izdr\u0103il\u0103, alongside 18 students from Florin \u0218erban\u2019s Film School.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You Don\u2019t Belong Here began its international festival run in Locarno\u2019s main competition, where it won the Golden Leopard, the Europa Cinemas Label, the Youth Jury Award, and a special mention for But\u0103nescu\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

The film is scheduled to premiere in Romania in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe emotions I have about the film meeting the Romanian public have not diminished. I would say quite the opposite,\u201d Adria V\u0103ncic\u0103 said. \u201cI look forward to seeing you at the premiere in November.\u201d<\/p>\n

Florin \u0218erban wrote, directed, and edited the film, while also serving as producer. The cinematography is by Liviu M\u0103rghidan, with production design by Bogdan Ionescu and original music by Marius Left\u0103rache and Nikita Dembinski.<\/p>\n
