{"id":11431,"date":"2026-08-06T11:01:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T11:01:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=11431"},"modified":"2026-08-06T11:01:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T11:01:20","slug":"northern-romania-hit-by-extended-drought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=11431","title":{"rendered":"Northern Romania hit by extended drought"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The northern parts of Romania are experiencing a prolonged lack of precipitation and high temperatures, coupled with historic minimum flows for numerous regional rivers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Some\u0219-Tisa Water Basin Administration announced this week that 12 hydrological stations have reached zero flow, while another 15 have recorded historic minimum flows, well below the normal values for this period.<\/p>\n<p>In the Crasna river basin and the tributaries of the Lower Some\u0219 and the Some\u0219ul Mic, runoff is below 10% of the multiannual norm, while in the Tur, Iza, L\u0103pu\u0219, S\u0103l\u0103u\u021ba and \u0218ieu river basins flows represent 10-25% of the multiannual average values.<\/p>\n<p>Higher values, but still below the average specific to this period, were recorded at hydrometric stations in the mountain basins in the eastern part of the Some\u0219-Tisa hydrographic area, namely the Some\u0219ul Mare upstream of the confluence with the S\u0103l\u0103u\u021ba (20\u201340%) and the Vi\u0219eu (40\u201360%).<\/p>\n<p>At 34 stations out of the total of 103 hydrometric monitoring points on the watercourses in the basin, the previous minimum flow record was reached or exceeded. A dozen water sites in the region, or 11.6% of the total, had zero flow. The filling degree of the main reservoirs that constitute raw water sources is between 33% and 93%.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Some\u0219-Tisa Water Basin Administration, cited by <a href=\"http:\/\/mediafax.ro\/social\/seceta-loveste-nordul-tarii-debit-zero-la-12-statii-hidrologice-minime-istorice-in-alte-15-23785439\">Mediafax<\/a>, the most vulnerable is the V\u00e2r\u0219ol\u021b reservoir on the Crasna River, in S\u0103laj County. The water reserve in the lake is currently at the lowest level of the past ten years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only reservoir that currently presents a risk from the perspective of available reserves is Lake V\u00e2r\u0219ol\u021b, located on the Crasna River, in S\u0103laj County.
