{"id":1093,"date":"2024-07-29T11:09:46","date_gmt":"2024-07-29T11:09:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=1093"},"modified":"2024-07-29T11:09:46","modified_gmt":"2024-07-29T11:09:46","slug":"bucharests-george-enescu-philharmonic-announces-star-studded-2024-2025-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=1093","title":{"rendered":"Bucharest&#8217;s George Enescu Philharmonic announces star-studded 2024-2025 season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vasily Petrenko, Charles Dutoit, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Renaud Capu\u00e7on, Daniel Hope, Julian Rachlin, and Vadim Repin are among the artists invited to perform at the George Enescu Philharmonic in the 2024-2025 season, the Bucharest institution announced.<\/p>\n<p>The lineup of international artists \u2013 that the Bucharest public is more accustomed to listening to every two years at the George Enescu Festival \u2013 is part of the Philharmonic&#8217;s efforts &#8220;to build an international profile.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Philharmonic will bring 95 Romanian and foreign soloists and conductors to Bucharest in its upcoming season, and 57 of them will be included in its artistic programming for the first time, it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the 2024-2025 season, the George Enescu Philharmonic takes the most ambitious step yet towards building an international profile. We want to become the place where Romanian music lovers can listen to both famous foreign artists and the best Romanian artists throughout the year. [\u2026] We aim to regain the status of the interwar period, when the Romanian Athenaeum was the place where the great musicians of the time performed, alongside the George Enescu Philharmonic,&#8221; Marin Cazacu, director of the George Enescu Philharmonic, explained.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The program: premieres, opera in concert, works by Enescu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2024-2025 season is dedicated to Romanian musician George Enescu, with several works he composed to be performed, the Philharmonic announced.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the program, described as &#8220;the most ambitious and rich so far,&#8221; covers representative works from a variety of periods, ranging from Baroque to contemporary music, classical music &#8216;hits&#8217; by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky or Beethoven, but also novel works.<em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Johann Sebastian Bach&#8217;s masterpiece of sacred music<em> Matth\u00e4us-Passion<\/em> is scheduled in the period preceding the Easter holidays, with conductor Gabriel Bebe\u015felea scheduled to lead the orchestra in 2025 concerts that also mark 340 years since the composer&#8217;s birth.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, two operas in concert will be performed at the Athenaeum, namely Francis Poulenc&#8217;s <em>La Voix Humaine<\/em>, and Maurice Ravel&#8217;s<strong> <\/strong><em>L&#8217;heure espagnole. <\/em>Arvo P\u00e4rt&#8217;s <em>Silouan&#8217;s Song<\/em>, Olga Viktorova&#8217;s<strong> <\/strong><em>Quinlong Azure Dragon<\/em>, Toru Takemitsu&#8217;s <em>Three Film Scores<\/em>, Dominique Probst&#8217;s <em>Overture<\/em> of the <em>Nu\u00e9es <\/em>cycle, and Kristjan J\u00e4rvi&#8217;s <em>Aurora<\/em> are some of the contemporary music works scheduled in the program.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the institution will continue supporting contemporary Romanian composers, and the Bucharest public is invited to listen to young composer Alin Chel\u0103rescu&#8217;s work <em>Oblatio Lucis<\/em>, commissioned by the Philharmonic.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Livia Teodorescu Cioc\u0103nea&#8217;s oratorio <em>C\u00e2mpuri de maci (Poppy Fields)<\/em> and the piano concerti composed by Carmen Petra-Basacopol and Paul Constantinescu will also be performed.<\/p>\n<p>The season will open with the concerts scheduled for October 3 and October 4, when the orchestra will perform alongside violinist Ioana Cristina Goicea, an artist in residence of the George Enescu Philharmonic in the upcoming season, conducted by Mikhail Pletnev. The program includes Jean Sibelius&#8217;s <em>Violin Concerto<\/em>, Aleksandr\u00a0 Glazunov&#8217;s <em>The Seasons<\/em>, and Alfred Alessandrescu&#8217;s <em>Autumn Twilight<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The artists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among those set to take the Philharmonic&#8217;s stage are: conductors <em>Vasily Petrenko, Mikhail Pletnev, Kristjan J\u00e4rvi, Arnaud Arbet, Renaud Capu\u00e7on, Maxime Pascal, Nabil Shehta, Paul Goodwin, Gergely Madaras,Jos\u00e9 Luis Gomez, Lionel Bringuier, Julian Rachlin, Andrei Boreiko, Alexandre Bloch, Alexander Liebreich,Yan Pascal Tortelier, Roberto For\u00e9s Veses, Charles Dutoit, Samy Rachid,J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Rhorer, Dmitri Liss, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Dmitri Jurowski, Jesko Sirvend, Ana Patino Osario, Robert Farkas, <\/em>and <em>Courtney Lewis<\/em>; pianists <em>Bruce Liu, David Kaduch, Petr Limonov, Eva Gevorghyan, Alexander Gavrylyuk, Alexandre Tharaud, Katia and Marielle Lab\u00e8que<\/em>, <em>Mikhail Pletnev,\u00a0<\/em>and <em>Nobuyuki Tsujii<\/em>; violinists <em>Daniel Hope<\/em>, <em>Liza Ferschtman<\/em>, <em>Alexandra Conunova<\/em>, <em>Vadim Repin<\/em>, and <em>Alena Baeva<\/em>; cellists <em>Zlatomir Fung<\/em>, <em>Ivan Karizna<\/em>, and <em>Edgar Moreau<\/em>; trumpet player <em>Tine Thing Helseth<\/em>, and vocal soloists <em>Damien Bigourdan<\/em> (tenor), <em>Marina Belli<\/em> (mezzo-soprano),<em>Peter Kirk<\/em> (tenor), <em>Charles Rice<\/em> (baritone), <em>Barnaby Rea<\/em> (bas), <em>Hye-Youn Lee<\/em> (soprano), <em>Judit Kutasi<\/em> (mezzo-soprano), <em>Roberto Scandiuzzi<\/em> (bas), and <em>Katerina Knezikova<\/em> (soprano).<\/p>\n<p>Also scheduled to perform in the 2024-2025 season are pianists <em>Elisabeth Leonskaja<\/em> and Elena <em>Bashkirova<\/em>, while conductors <em>Christian Zacharias<\/em> and <em>Jean-Claude Casadesus<\/em> will return to the stage of the Athenaeum, the home of the George Enescu Philharmonic.<\/p>\n<p>The list of Romanian artists includes conductors <em>Gabriel Bebe\u0219elea<\/em> and <em>Nicolae Moldoveanu<\/em>, cellists <em>Mihaela Martin<\/em> and <em>Alexandra Conunova<\/em>, and pianists <em>Viniciu Moroianu<\/em> and <em>Dana Cioc\u00e2rlie<\/em>, alongside violinist <em>Ioana Cristina Goicea<\/em>, cellists <em>Valentin R\u0103du\u021biu<\/em> and <em>Andrei Ioni\u021b\u0103<\/em>, and pianist <em>Daniel Ciobanu<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, actress <em>Ana Ularu<\/em> will take the stage of the Philharmonic as narrator for Leonard Bernstein&#8217;s <em>Symphony No 3 Ka<\/em>ddish, alongside soprano <em>Ana Maria Labin<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Passes &amp; tickets <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The program for the upcoming season is available on the Philharmonic&#8217;s website. Passes will be available online between August 5 and September 19, and at the ticket office between September 3 and September 19.
