{"id":10815,"date":"2026-06-26T13:00:47","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T13:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=10815"},"modified":"2026-06-26T13:00:47","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T13:00:47","slug":"romanian-director-cristian-mungiu-guest-of-festival-la-rochelle-cinema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=10815","title":{"rendered":"Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, guest of Festival La Rochelle Cinema"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Director <strong>Cristian Mungiu<\/strong>, this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romania-insider.com\/mungiu-palme-dor-fjord-may-2026\" target=\"_blank\">winner of the Palme d\u2019Or for <em>Fjord<\/em><\/a>, is a guest of the Festival La Rochelle Cinema (FEMA), which will present a retrospective covering his complete filmography, from <em>Occident<\/em> to <em>R.M.N.<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The filmmaker returns to La Rochelle nearly twenty years after winning his first Palme d&#8217;Or for <em>4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days<\/em>, which opened FEMA 2007.<\/p>\n<p>The public will have the opportunity to discover or rediscover nine feature films and all of his short films, but also titles not previously screened in France, namely\u00a0<em>Traffic<\/em> (2024), directed by Teodora Ana Mihai and co-written by Cristian Mungiu, and <em>Fjord<\/em> (2026), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The event, which runs from June 26 to July 4, will also host the exhibition <em>The Biography of a Storyteller<\/em>, featuring photographs by Mungiu. The exhibition will be on view throughout the festival at the Dames Blanches Chapel and the Chain Tower in La Rochelle. It is organized in partnership with the <em>Un Week End \u00e0 l&#8217;Est<\/em> festival, the City of La Rochelle, the National Monuments Centre, and in collaboration with Le Pacte.<\/p>\n<p>Mungiu will be present at FEMA La Rochelle between June 27 and July 1. He will attend various Q&amp;A sessions with the public, but also industry events.<\/p>\n<p>The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Paris said it was supporting the participation of the filmmaker at FEMA La Rochelle as part of ICR\u2019s \u201cstrategy to enhance the international visibility of Romanian cinema, promote European co-productions, and support the Oscar campaign for <em>Fjord<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides the 2026 Palme d\u2019Or, <em>Fjord<\/em> won four other major awards: the Fran\u00e7ois Chalais Award, the Ecumenical Jury Prize, the Prix de la Citoyennet\u00e9, and the FIPRESCI Prize.
