{"id":10596,"date":"2026-06-12T08:00:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T08:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=10596"},"modified":"2026-06-12T08:00:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T08:00:25","slug":"romania-seeks-settlement-with-pfizer-as-vaccine-debt-accrues-eur-2-5-mln-in-monthly-penalties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=10596","title":{"rendered":"Romania seeks settlement with Pfizer as vaccine debt accrues EUR 2.5 mln in monthly penalties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Romania is seeking to reduce the budgetary impact of a EUR 680 million payment obligation to Pfizer after losing a legal dispute over anti-COVID-19 vaccine purchases, finance minister Alexandru Nazare said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/economedia.ro\/nazare-obligatia-de-plata-catre-pfizer-pune-presiune-pe-bugetul-de-stat-cautam-alternative-la-plata-integrala-dobanzi-de-81-000-de-euro-pe-zi.html?mc_cid=8963a42dd3&amp;mc_eid=cd1f92f96c\" target=\"_blank\">Economedia.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nazare said the amount represents around 0.2% of Romania&#8217;s GDP and poses a significant burden at a time when the government is attempting to reduce the fiscal deficit.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the principal amount, interest charges continue to accumulate at a rate of approximately EUR 81,000 per day, equivalent to nearly EUR 2.5 million per month.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I cannot go into the details of the negotiation with Pfizer. There is a confidentiality regime that we must respect.
