This marked the Romanian director\u2019s second Palme d\u2019Or, following his 2007 victory for 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to Cristian Mungiu for the second Palme d\u2019Or at Cannes, an extraordinary achievement,\u201d president Nicu\u0219or Dan wrote on Facebook, also congratulating the film\u2019s team and lead actor Sebastian Stan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciated in Cristian Mungiu\u2019s previous films the fact that they ask questions, that they walk the fine line between two or more conflicting sets of values. For me, this is the meaning of art: understanding humanity from as many perspectives as possible,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n<p>Dan also described the success as recognition for Romania\u2019s New Wave cinema movement, mentioning directors including Cristi Puiu, Corneliu Porumboiu, and C\u0103t\u0103lin Mitulescu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cContemporary Romanian cinema is an excellent calling card for Romania, and the administration must do much more to use it for the benefit of Romania and Romanian cinematography,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n<p>In his turn, interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan said the award reflects \u201ctalent, hard work, and the way Romanian culture can reach major international stages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are glad to see a Romanian filmmaker appreciated at the highest level, and we thank him for the image he continues to promote about Romania,\u201d Bolojan wrote in a post on social media.<\/p>\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture announced that Fjord has been added to the list of strategic cultural projects eligible for state support for an Oscar awards campaign. Interim minister Demeter Andr\u00e1s said the ministry would support the film as part of Romania\u2019s cultural diplomacy efforts ahead of the Academy Awards competition, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/agerpres.ro\/cultura-media\/2026\/05\/24\/fjord-premiat-cu-palme-d-or-sustinut-de-ministerul-culturii-ca-proiect-de-diplomatie-culturala-pentr--1559434\" target=\"_blank\">Agerpres<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fjord stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as a Romanian-Norwegian couple involved in a conflict with Norwegian child protection authorities.
