{"id":10263,"date":"2026-05-21T07:01:36","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T07:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=10263"},"modified":"2026-05-21T07:01:36","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T07:01:36","slug":"romanian-pm-renews-criticism-of-nuclearelectricas-nuscale-smr-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofero.news\/?p=10263","title":{"rendered":"Romanian PM renews criticism of Nuclearelectrica\u2019s NuScale SMR project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Romania\u2019s acting prime minister <strong>Ilie Bolojan<\/strong> reiterated criticism of the small modular reactor (SMR) project developed by state-controlled nuclear energy producer Nuclearelectrica (BVB: SNN) with US-based NuScale Power, warning that the investment carries major financial and feasibility risks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in an interview for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.b1tv.ro\/politica\/bolojan-spune-ca-afacerea-cu-sua-privind-reactoarele-nucleare-de-la-doicesti-e-paguboasa-pentru-romania-1693614.html?mc_cid=3865cdd39f&amp;mc_eid=cd1f92f96c\" target=\"_blank\">B1 TV<\/a>, Bolojan said Romania, through Nuclearelectrica, had already spent more than USD 240 million on feasibility studies for a project based on technology that remains commercially untested.<\/p>\n<p>According to the prime minister, the project could ultimately fail, leaving Romania with \u201can industrial site and a bunch of paperwork.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bolojan\u2019s comments came after former Social Democratic Party&#8217;s (PSD) energy minister Bogdan Ivan accused him of undermining Romania\u2019s bilateral relations with the United States by publicly criticising the initiative.
